I’ve never heard that complaint, that it’s extremely painful (the needle is really tiny).
If it is really hurting you, first see your doctor and show him how you’re administering the shot, to make sure you’re doing it right.
Assuming you are, ask your doctor for some EMLA cream. You put it on for 15-20 min before the shot (and keep it covered, like with a Bandaid) and it numbs the skin underneath.
